A 60-day journey around the Land Down Under is being halted days after the tragic passing of an elderly lady who was stranded by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but broke off from the excursion for a break. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned after some time after the personnel realised the woman was missing.

An extensive search operation found her body the next day.

Officials are looking into the event, in coordination with police and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator said that travelers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he further stated that travelers would be provided a full refund, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the travel back of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also released an latest statement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Commander" preventing any additional guests from entering the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the vessel in the Australian city upon its coming back.

The liner first departed Cairns on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the voyage at the point of the senior passenger's death. The remote island was the first stop on the journey.
