The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team might be designing a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and deep class systems—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
